High-bay warehouse

Task

In a high-bay warehouse, the continuous lighting system needs to be used in the aisles and order-picking area in front of the shelves and controlled by integrated motion sensors. The associated lighting needs to only be switched on once somebody has entered the respective shelf aisle; movement along the ends in front of the aisles is not detected. Once staff have left the respective sensors’ detection fields, the lighting remains at the highest illumination level for a short time before dropping to a lower level and finally switching off entirely shortly after. In addition, it has to be possible to switch all the lighting in these two areas on permanently so that motion detection remains suspended until the next time it is switched off.

It needs to be possible to switch the lighting in the break room and office on and off via push-buttons that are connected to the existing switch system. Also, the lights need to be dimmable. The luminaires in the ladies’ toilets have to be switched on fully automatically via integrated motion detectors when movement is detected and switched off again after the movement has ceased and after an adjustable period of time has elapsed. PC software is required to set the delays before the lights switch off, to configure all the other lighting control components, and to assign them as well as the individual luminaires from a single place.

APCON solution

All luminaires and gear trays that form part of the RIDI LINIA continuous lighting system are configured in DALI and connected to the APCON lighting control components via a two-pole DALI line. The DALI power supply APCON PS-DR supplies the entire DALI bus, and all the luminaires and lighting control components are configured, grouped, and assigned via the DALI-USB PC interface APCON PCI-DR and the associated licence-free PC software DALI-Cockpit.

In the shelf aisles and the order-picking area in front of them, the VLMF-SEN 500-11 PD4-M-1C-GH-AC sensors that are integrated into the RIDI LINIA continuous lighting system switch the assigned LED gear trays on fully automatically when movement is detected, and to a reduced light value after an adjustable period of time has elapsed without movement. After a further – also adjustable – period of time, the lighting switches off fully automatically. In addition, the lighting in these areas can be switched on and off as well as individually dimmed and brightened via a push-button of the existing series. In this case, motion detection is suspended until it is switched off.

The lighting is controlled in the same way in the office and break room, the only difference being that the installed APCON SEN12-SM sensor controls the lighting depending on the amount of available daylight once it has been switched on. To this end, the APCON COP-A push-button coupler is placed behind the push-button in the installation box in the respective area and  connected to the system (a maximum of 4 push-buttons can be connected potential-free). The lighting in the WCs is switched on and off fully automatically when movement is detected via the assigned APCON SEN12-SM motion sensors.
