Sports Hall Lighting with RIDI LINIA EVO
Continuous-row lighting as part of the architecture

The Gymnase Alice Milliat de Mérignac is a modern multi-purpose sports hall covering approximately 3,100 square metres and bringing together a wide range of functional areas. These include a multifunctional sports hall with spectator seating, a climbing wall, an additional training hall, as well as lounge and reception areas for visitors and athletes. The main hall area was specifically designed for competitive volleyball.

Designed by ATELIER FERRET, the sports hall integrates into the redevelopment of the Mérignac Chemin Long district as an urban architectural element, combining a clear architectural language with a sustainable building concept. The building was realised in accordance with the requirements of the French Energie Carbone label, which evaluates energy-efficient and low-carbon construction. A defining feature of the architecture is the striking glued laminated timber structure, combined with materials such as brick, glass and aluminium. The integrated RIDI LINIA EVO continuous-row lighting systems deliberately reflect this architectural structure and emphasise the linear form of the laminated timber surfaces.

Integrated into the ceiling structure, the continuous lines of light become a central design element, giving the hall a distinctive spatial character. At the same time, the lighting concept meets the highest functional requirements. Individually controllable lighting levels enable flexible use of the sports facility – with 800 lux for competitions, 500 lux for training, 300 lux for school sports and 200 lux for supplementary usage areas. The integrated APCON lighting management system enables energy-efficient control of the different lighting levels. As a linear LED continuous-row lighting system, RIDI LINIA EVO combines low-glare illumination with UGR ≤ 22, a compact design and maintenance-friendly construction.

The result is a lighting solution that purposefully supports the architectural design of the sports hall while simultaneously harmonising functionality, energy efficiency and spatial atmosphere.
