RIDI moves forward
At RIDI, we understand sustainability as taking responsibility for preserving our environment – but also as a commitment to economic and social responsibility. This comprehensive concept of sustainability is deeply rooted in our culture as a tradition-conscious, medium-sized family business.
We document our sustainable actions in regular sustainability reports. Structurally, we align these reports with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as defined by the United Nations.
The RIDI Focus
- Energy efficiency and product innovations
As a lighting manufacturer, the development of energy-efficient lighting systems is a central topic. Our innovative power in this field makes a significant contribution to reducing energy consumption for our customers and is a core component of our sustainable product strategy.
- Resource conservation and circular economy
Optimising resource use in production and promoting recycling and re-use are key issues. We work continuously to reduce waste and encourage the re-use of materials to make the lifecycle of our products more sustainable.
- Supply chain responsibility
Ensuring social and environmental standards in the supply chain is of great importance. We strive to work in partnership with our suppliers to promote fair working conditions and environmentally friendly production practices.
- Climate protection
Contributing to global climate protection by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions is an essential objective. This includes both direct emissions from our production processes and indirect emissions arising from the use of our products.
- Employee well-being and training
The satisfaction and well-being of our employees are at the center of our corporate management. We place great value on a safe working environment and continuously promote further training and development opportunities.
Concrete goals and measures
ECOLOGY
- BEK Bioenergie Killertal
Since 2011, the biomass cogeneration plant of Bioenergie Killertal GmbH has been supplying CO₂-neutral heat to the neighboring RIDI plant in Jungingen.
- 100% green electricity
The headquarters in Jungingen has been obtaining 100% green electricity since 2022. With systematic energy management, we achieve annual energy savings.
- Photovoltaic system
The new photovoltaic system with 825 kWp and a total area of approx. 3,750 m² went into operation in early 2024.
- Energy management and monitoring
RIDI has implemented an energy management system in Jungingen and Zeuthen in accordance with ISO 50001:2018 to continuously improve the energy and CO₂ balance. The calculation of the CO₂ footprint covers all three scopes according to the “GHG Protocol”. We are committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and have defined corresponding goals.
- Additional sites
Our location in Zeuthen near Berlin has been using 100% green electricity since 2022. The location in Łódź (Poland) uses electricity from its own PV system.
- Vehicle fleet
The vehicle fleet also has a significant share of emissions at RIDI. We are therefore gradually converting the fleet to electric vehicles—with the goal of electrifying the entire company car fleet by 2030.
- Water consumption
Within our luminaire production, only the powder-coating system consumes around 1,100 m³ of water per year. Due to a circulation and cleaning process, no wastewater is generated. We have been able to significantly reduce the remaining consumption of water and wastewater—for example, for the canteen, sanitary facilities, and cleaning—in recent years.
- Waste / recycling
We continuously work to reduce scrap and waste and set ambitious goals. Already today, We recycle more than 70% of our waste back into the steel, aluminum, and glass production process. We collect recyclable materials in a central location and sort them before sending them for recycling. Interzero is commissioned with the return and disposal of appropriately labeled luminaires from customers.
- Flora and fauna
The natural green areas at the Jungingen site provide habitat for many wild native animal and plant species. At our site in Łódź (Poland), employees maintain beehives.
ECONOMY
- Circular economy
From development to production of our products, we focus on conserving resources. For maximum service life, we rely on high quality, durable components, and maintenance-friendly construction. Together with disposal partners, as many components as possible are recycled at the end of their lifecycle.
- Eco-design
With state-of-the-art development processes and tools, we already consider ecological aspects in the design, development, and construction of luminaires.
- Quality promise
High standards in development and production, as well as a networked KPI system, form the basis for excellent quality and long, trouble-free luminaire life. RIDI is committed to providing technically high-quality, safe, and sustainable products. Each individual luminaire is tested in its final inspection according to DIN EN 60598-1.
- The RIDI laboratory
Together with independent testing institutes, tests in our own laboratory ensure the safety of our products. As part of this, ENEC certification is carried out with tests that cover electrical and mechanical safety, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), and photometric properties.
- Focus on renovation solutions
In recent years, many widely used light sources have been removed from the market due to low efficiency or harmful substances. For renovation projects, we offer tailored and highly efficient LED solutions with savings potential of up to 85% (new system with LED luminaires, presence detection, and daylight control/shutoff).
- Packaging
We are working to reduce packaging and make it more environmentally friendly. One example: the trunking rails of the new RIDI LINIA EVO lighting system require 80% less packaging material compared to the previous model. The transport protection end caps are made of compostable material and also serve as a cutting aid for the power conductors.
- APCON lighting control components
With lighting and building control, luminaires can be networked for lower energy consumption, longer service life, and greater user comfort.
SOCIAL
- Equality, diversity, inclusion
At RIDI Leuchten GmbH, all genders are equal and have equal rights. We place great importance on diversity and inclusion in our teams. This not only creates an inspiring working environment but also fosters creativity and innovative strength among our employees.
- Occupational safety
To promote the health and safety of our employees and prevent injuries, we invest in prevention programs, training, and ergonomic workplace design.
- Healthy nutrition
All employees at the Jungingen site can enjoy a balanced, optionally vegetarian lunch in the in-house company canteen.
- Training
RIDI has traditionally supported its own young talent with currently around 17 apprentices in technical and commercial professions. We invest in educational partnerships with schools and universities as well as in training programs and internships to attract young talent for the future.
- Personnel development and benefits
We pursue a sustainable HR strategy to attract and retain qualified talent in the long term. This includes individual development and training opportunities as well as an attractive working environment and competitive compensation. Offers include work clothing, course programs, and flexible working hours.
- Sustainable procurement, ethical standards
As a leading lighting manufacturer, we are committed to the highest ethical standards and take a firm stance against corruption and bribery. This is deeply reflected in our corporate culture and all business processes. To ensure sustainable procurement, we introduced a supplier code of conduct in 2025. Compliance is checked and documented in audits.
